Windows and Mac Productivity Hacks

It's true that some hardcore computer users think they are above learning new tricks, but there is always something new to learn when it comes to computers, and we guarantee that at least one thing you'll learn here will be useful.

The Windows Power User Menu provides quick access to frequently used power user destinations. By either right-clicking  the bottom left of the Start button on Windows 8 and later, or by pressing the Windows key + X, a context menu will appear displaying shortcuts to power options, the Event Viewer, Device Manager, and more.

Bring back a closed tab Web browsing has its own part in the section below, but this one is too important to skip. Tab closed by mistake? To reopen the most recently closed tab and return to what you were doing, simply press Ctrl + Shift + T (or, on a Mac, Cmd + Shift + T).

Less programs should be running at startup You probably have too many programs running at startup if your computer takes too long to boot up. Your PC will start substantially more quickly if you minimize these, which is an easy process. Make sure you do your homework before shutting anything off because you might find that some processes are required by installed third-party programs.

• Windows: Select the startup tab in the task manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to set the apps you wish your system to launch when it starts up.

• Windows 7 and prior: To reach a window with a comparable startup section, open run (Windows key + R) and type msconfig.

• macOS: Select System Preferences > Users & Groups from the menu. Choose your user, then select the Login Items tab. From this page, you can remove or hide startup programs.

Undo everything to remedy those small errors. You can undo practically any action; did you know that? The best hotkey is Ctrl + Z, which we're sure you already know, but remember that undo isn't limited to typing. Ctrl + Z will return a file to its original location if you unintentionally delete or relocate it; Ctrl + Y will reverse your changes.
