Intel Core i9-13900KS
The 6 GHZ Barrier Processor

Introducing Intel's fastest desktop processor, which breaks the 6GHz barrier for the first time at stock speeds. In its 5.8GHz turbo frequency last year, the 13th Gen Core i9-13900K came close to breaking the 6GHz barrier.

It is the first processor to reach 6GHz without overclocking, and it improves PC gaming performance with Intel's Thermal Velocity Boost technology.

However, it uses more electricity to do so. On the 13900KS, Intel has increased the base power to 150 watts from 125 watts on the 13900K. It will hit slightly over 250 watts at maximum turbo power - just like the 13900K.

Almost all of the 13900KS's specifications are the same as the 13900K's, except for the power and turbo frequencies.

This processor has performance cores clocked at 3.2GHz, up from 3GHz on the 13900K, but it also has the same 24 cores (8 performance and 16 efficiency), 32 threads, 36MB of Intel Smart Cache, and 20 PCIe lanes (16 PCIe 5 and four PCIe 4 lanes).

Retailers will begin selling the CPU boxed on shelves today and inside OEM systems with a BIOS update for the Z790 and Z690 motherboards.

Described as the ultimate processor for gamers and creators, Intel’s latest CPUs arrive just weeks before AMD’s flagship Ryzen 9 7950X3D chip. With a promised run between 15 and 25 percent better performance in games that are CPU bound at 1080p on average, it will be interesting to see how both processors fare once they hit the market.
